|description= Mtanga is a Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposon described in the Y chromosome of the African mosquito Anopheles gambiae (Rohr et al. 2002). It constitutes a one-single-sequence clade within Branch 2 of the Ty1/Copia LTR retrotransposons family (Llorens et al. 2009) as it has no phylogenetic relatives to date reported. The full-length Mtanga genome is 4284 bp in size, including two identical 119-bp LTRs that flanked an internal region containing a Primer Binding Site (PBS) for a tRNAMet, two overlapping Open Reading Frames (ORFs) and a Polypurine Tract (PPT). The first ORF contains the gag and protease domains while the second presents the integrase, the reverse transcriptase and the RNase H domains typical of Ty1/Copia polyproteins (Rohr et al. 2002).
